This superb large size Victorian silver inkwell was made by the renowned maker John Grinsell and is dated Birmingham 1891. The heavy circular base with wrythen fluting. The flat hinged lid with conforming decorations surrounding a vacant roundel. The underside with detachable bar housing a crystal glass inkwell with star cut base. Hallmarks: JG&S for John Grinsell & Sons Birmingham Assay Mark. Lion Passant. Date letter "r" for 1891.

Very good. No dings or dents. The glass in very good condition. The hinge is strong. Good set of hallmarks.
