Description
Stunning and rare Sumida Gawa moon flask that has a terracotta background but is high fired in places and part drip glazed. Really wonderful raised decoration of 2 figures in elaborate clothing on one side and a snail on the other. The figures and the snail are mostly glazed as is the top section of the flask. The date of manufacture will be somewhere between 1880 and 1930 but I'm afraid I can't be more precise. Beautifully made and overall in good condition. 2 Faults to note. There are some fairly minor specks of paint loss to the terracotta background and base rim (visible in photos) and there is a very hard to spot chip to the right hand corner of the base. This may be have been done in the making because there is no colour variation there at all. . Otherwise all is good. Sometimes (but not always) these pieces were signed by the potter. This one appears unsigned Really fantastic and scarce item
