Description
A very lovely early Derby porcelain plate/dish of unusual shape with curved, raised scalloped rim and double stepped cavetto. Beautifully painted with finely detailed ornate floral sprays by the "cotton-stem painter" and finished with a brown-red rim. Unmarked, c.1760-1765. Provenance: Dennis G. Rice Collection.
measurements
It measures 16.2cm (6 3/8") wide and 2.5cm (1") high.
declaration
The Fancy Fox has clarified that the Superb Rare Derby Porcelain Cotton Stem Painter Lobed Plate / Dish c.1760 (LA552348) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1760-1765
condition
Condition is very good; there is a very small rim chip that has been retouched (see final photographs) and several firing cracks to the edge, a couple of which extend as short glaze lines. One of these firing cracks was a bit wider and has been filled, neatly and clearly professionally. Minor handling wear, the enamels are lovely and bright with no discernible rubbing.
