A superb Victorian Suede bag in the form of a parasol with a concertina (or gate top) opening. The body of this fascinating bag is made of suede and the top - by the concertina opening - is lace trimmed. The concertina opening and the bottom of the bag (the tip of the parasol) are gold tone metal. It is lined with a cream satin. The gate top mechanism opens and closes well and there is a disc of suede on the top of the gate top. There is a suede handle that takes the full measurement including the handle to 47 cm. It is a stunning and highly unusual bag which is in incredible condition for its age. After contact with the Tassen Museum (The Handbag Museum in Amsterdam) the bag is suggested to be circa 1860.
The condition is incredible. There is a little tarnish to the metal parts of the bag but other than that there is nothing to note.
