Superior Rosewood London Fusee Bracket Clock, Five Pillar
Clockwise is delighted to offer for your consideration a stunning rosewood London eight day fusee bracket clock made by the renowned Felix Lecluse of Frith Street in Soho.
The eight day movement strikes the full hours on a bell and has rectangular plates with the superior deadbeat escapement and five pillars reserved for the finest of clocks. It also has a strike/silent facility and it has just been fully overhauled so benefits from my three year guarantee.
The silvered dial with Roman numerals and a 'strike silent' switch to the top is in good condition having just been resilvered/blacked and is notated with the makers name and place of business. The original cast bezel fronts the dial and is complete with an immaculate bevelled edge glass and the original sight ring is present. The bezel locks with its original working lock and key.
The neoclassical case with moulded pediment, canted corners, and on compressed bun feet stands 16 & 1/2 inches tall and is in stunning condition with the original side brass sound frets and new lining present. There is a pull/repeat function to the side of the clock case and the movement is visible through a hinged rear door and glass both in excellent condition. The all important travel stop is also present which is becoming a rarity to find with these movements.
Felix Lecluse was born in France in 1817 and having completed his watchmaking training he travelled to London to pursue his chosen profession. By 1842 he was working in the wealthy Soho area, at 40 Dean Street, and then in 1848 he moved his operations to 7 Frith Street, Soho. He produced mainly clocks but was succeeded by his sons who continued the business with renewed interest in watches and their movements.
This is a super rare and original clock providing a welcome change from the mahogany examples of the genre and with its gorgeous condition and simple lines, it is bound to attract much interest. It’s one of many restored fusee clocks I have for sale with many more coming.
Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.
