Description
We have the pleasure of being able to offer for sale a very attractive Regency period Swansea oval dish.
This oval Swansea duck egg porcelain dish is moulded in the Nantgarw style and decorated by William Pollard with a gilt border, around 6 vignettes depicting different song birds all around a central gilded circular motif. The base of the dish carries the red stencilled SWANSEA mark. The dish probably dates to somewhere around 1816. An example of a Swanse dish of the same pattern is illustrated in "Swansea Porcelain. The Duck-Egg Translucent Vision of Lewis Dillwyn" by Howell G M Edwards, edited by Morgan Denyer (2017) ISBN: 9780244325787.
The dish is 10.5 inches (26cm) long and 7.5 inches (19cm) wide and is in a very good antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, although there is wear to the gilding around the edge and at the centre of the dish.
