This is a fine antique George 11 sterling silver caster/shaker made by specialist Samuel Wood and hallmarked in London 1758. It is in very good condition with no repair or damage, of baluster shape and stands firmly on a raised circular base. The attractively pierced pull off lid with a wrythen finial fits tightly and is clearly hallmarked as it the base of the caster. It has been made with a heavy gauge of silver and has a very solid feel. Samuel Wood was a well respected Georgian silversmith and his work is exhibited in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Mainly known as a caster maker some of his pupils themselves went on to spcialise in the same way.
