General history:-
Joseph Bramah invented the Bramah lock at his shop in Piccadilly London , he displayed one of his patented locks in the window alongside a challenge offering a substantial reward of 200 guineas to anyone who could pick it , the challenge remained unpicked for more than 67 years earning a reputation as one of the most secure locks ever. It was eventually opened in 1851 during the great exhibition by an American lock smith Alfred Charles Hobbs , this took him 51 hours and 16 days.
