This gold ring, circa 100-300ad, has a circular band and an oval bezel set with a yellow jasper gem. The delicate intaglio depicts a scorpion. The scorpion was the emblem of the Praetorian Guard, the Roman emperor’s personal army elite unit. The gold tests around 21ct and the total weight is a light 4.7g thanks to the hollow design of many Roman rings. Authenticity: The item has undergone X-ray fluorescence analysis to confirm the metallurgical content suggesting its ancient origin and lack of modern trace elements. This analysis will accompany the purchase. This ring is also accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity from an established ancient artefact gallery in central London.
