A very impressive and elegant Georgian London mahogany longcase clock. A fine quality case with an arched pediment and detailed fretwork. Choice flame mahogany case veneers. Brass capped hood columns and side glass hood panels. A raised moulded base panel. A superb brass and silvered dial with blued steel hands with strike/silent to the arch. A seconds and date dial with 'Tho Goddard, London' engraved to the cartouche on the dial. An 8-day duration, 5 pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Original brass cased weights. Circa 1770. The Goddard family of clockmakers worked in the 17th and 18th centuries in London. This example by Thomas Goddard dates to circa 1770.
