Stands very well. Dimensions: H: 73cm (28.7") | Di: 138cm (54.3") Delivery: Mainland UK included (excludes trade purchases) On Display: White’s Antiques, 53 High Street, Arundel, West Sussex Heritage, Craftsmanship & Timeless Georgian Elegance Discover a grand and elegant late Georgian circular tilt-top loo table, English, circa 1780, restored and reimagined in our own workshops. Its original structure remains intact, retaining its tilt mechanism and brass castors. The hand-painted decorative finish, using our Specialist Distressed Mottled Chalky Antique White paint finish to the Base with a contrasting and strikingly dark Faux Slate Top, transforms this fine Georgian piece into a conversation between centuries - the artistry of cabinetmaking meeting the modern eye for pattern and form. The dark, stone-like top is distinctively beautiful against the soft white underframe, blending heritage craftsmanship with contemporary decorative sensibility. Faint traces of grain shimmer through the layered paint, evoking time’s passage and endurance, while preserving the quiet dignity of its 18th-century form. The generous circular top, spanning an impressive 138cm, makes this a commanding centrepiece for dining, display, or occasional use. Tilted upright, the table becomes almost sculptural – its faux-slate surface reads like a modern panel painting. Folded down, it offers a refined, practical surface for everyday living or entertaining, captivating through its balance and beauty. Desirability Authentic Georgian loo table of substantial scale and presence Elegant later faux slate top with antique white base for a modern twist Highly decorative both upright and in when in use Ideal statement table for dining or display in classic or contemporary interiors Perfect fusion of 18th-century craftsmanship and modern design aesthetics Historical Note Loo tables became popular in late 18th-century England as elegant, sociable pieces designed for the fashionable trick-taking card game ‘Lanterloo’ or ‘Loo.’ Typically featuring round or oval tops on hinged mechanisms, they combined practicality and grace, allowing easy storage when not in use. Many were later repurposed as breakfast or occasional tables, their enduring appeal rooted in proportion and craftsmanship. This example retains the fine Georgian proportions and segmented hexagonal pedestal typical of the period, while the later Faux Slate Top and Antique White Base introduce a 21st-century decorative reinterpretation -  a meeting of history and modern artistry. The Heart Behind the Finish - History in Every Hue Our Specialist Handcrafted Paint Finishes are not merely decorative; they are a philosophy.  Each layer is applied by hand using natural pigments and traditional recipes that echo period palettes. The result is a surface rich in nuance - calm, tactile, and gently aged  - designed to reveal rather than disguise the story of the wood beneath. Inspired Heritage: Colour palettes draw from Georgian and Continental traditions. By Hand, With Heart: Painted using time-honoured methods and natural materials. Descriptive Names, Timeless Roots: Our colour names carry historical echoes. Crafted Slowly, Perfected Gently: Layered, softened, and nuanced for enduring beauty. Explore Every Facet Our high-resolution photographs invite you to linger over each detail; these visuals form part of the condition report, offering full transparency and allowing you to appreciate the craftsmanship and patina in detail. Styling Suggestions With its serene palette and sculptural form, this table anchors both period and contemporary interiors. Use it as a refined breakfast or centre table, or let it stand alone beneath a pendant light to highlight the faux-slate finish as art in its own right. Sustainable Style Thank you for considering antique furniture; it is both an aesthetic and environmental decision.  Restoration is the most elegant form of sustainability: it preserves craftsmanship, honours materials, and keeps beautiful pieces in circulation.  By choosing this Georgian table, you help ensure that the skills of cabinet-makers and restorers continue to thrive in a world too quick to discard. Purchase with Confidence When you purchase from White’s Antiques, you are not simply acquiring furniture - you are embracing history.  Every item is described with care and photographed in detail to ensure complete transparency.  Enjoy complimentary UK Mainland delivery (excluding trade purchases); your piece will arrive safely within 2–5 working days of cleared funds.
