Description
An unusual early 20th Century George 1st style free standing pedestal, desk with brass open plate handles. The shaped draws to each pedestal have unusual oyster Veneers with walnut cross banding and reeded surrounds. The top retains its original brown tooled leather. The quality of this desk and choice of veneers would suggest the leading maker in Georgian style furniture of the time. W. Charles Tozer of 25 Brook Street, London, In 1920, W. Charles Tozer was a cabinet maker, working in London, possibly at Brook Street. He is known to have retailed furniture, including a japanned bureau bookcase in early 18th-century style, which bears his retail label. His work also includes a 1920s walnut armchair. The National Trust Collections includes several items attributed to or retailed by W. Charles Tozer, including a japanned bureau bookcase and a chair.
