This is a superb very large, early 19th-century Sheffield Georgian-George III silver & mother of pearl antique folding knife. Hallmarked sterling silver blade. Decorated spine. Brass liners. The pearl scales with inlaid navette shaped motifs. One side with monogram 'Mary'. Firm hinge+spring, the blade latches on at 90° and then 180° and snaps nicely open and shut. The blade is straight and still has a good thickness of silver to it, not flimsy. Clear hallmarks. HALLMARKS: Sheffield, SILVER fineness 925 DATE: c.1800 DIMENSION: Length : CLOSED 9.7cm (3 7/8").
