Very Stylish Victorian Adjustable Armchair / Lounger

Those Victorian folk loved an armchair that could offer many a differing pose and posture - this one is no different with its claim to fame of being the preferred choice of The Royal Family, The Empress of France and the like... Engineered by Ward of Leicester Square, manufacturer of self-propelling and self-acting chairs! “John Ward an inventor was the winner of numerous awards all over the world for his work and was awarded Her Majesty’s Royal Letter Patent in 1855 and shown at the 1951 Great Exhibition. This chap was Premier League.” The chair can adopt many different poses – most shown in the images and maybe a few more. The all-encompassing chair has more recently enjoyed a full professional reupholster in a deep high quality blue cotton linen which is in very good order with a few marks to one of the edges but no holes or tears - perfectly fine. The original brass fittings are all working well – if a little stiff and there is a repair to one of the ends of the frame with additional support offered by way of a small bracket not particularly noticeable mostly hidden away. The mahogany on the arms is pleasingly worn with a good even colour. The large brass castors add a little class, as if it was required… A rather individual Victorian piece that brings a smile to our faces. We enjoy specialising in British furniture and all its trimmings. Purchasing any item online can sometimes be a bit of concern, rest assured we are a successful partnership of a successful interior designer and a chap with a knack of finding some interesting pieces… We have many happy clients whether it be for commercial, restaurant or home use and are fortunate to work from a great looking rural property once used to home the Dray horses from Bass Brewery. A true mix of rural charm and gritty industrial which is customer friendly if you care to see the pieces in the flesh.
Billy Hunt has clarified that the Very Stylish Victorian Adjustable Armchair / Lounger (LA77508) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1880
