Victorian hand made and decorated hallmarked solid silver nurses belt buckle. Made by Rolason Brothers of Vyse Street, Birmingham. Full Birmingham hallmark with the date letter for 1887. Good size and weight but it's the manufacture and decoration that raises this above the norm. The entire buckle is hand cut and decorated, most are cast and then hand finished. Each leaf and small flower has been individually cut from the silver, many of the points are still really shape. This makes it vulnerable to catching and being bent out of shape but this has been really well looked after and has no issue with this kind of damage. I've included close up pictures to demonstrate the detail and work that has been put into this by the silversmith. The belt bars are quite small, 3/4 inches 2 cm wide, designed so that the buckle would sit over the belt background colour to high light the design. Easily attached by folding the belt corners before attaching them to the buckle. The silver weight is 24 grams A rare and unusual addition to any collection. Will be delivered in a tissue lined gift box. Happy to answer any questions.
Measures 4 1/2 inches 11.5 cm wide and 2 inches 5cm tall.
