This lovely 19th Century antique inlaid credenza is an original Victorian piece. It is of nice small proportions. The credenza has lovely, mainly burr walnut, veneers over what we believe to be a predominately mahogany frame. It has decorative satinwood inlays and is brass mounted with brass beaded decoration around the doors. The credenza has a shaped top with central cupboard beneath with a single fixed wooden shelf inside. To either side are glazed bow-fronted cupboards, each with two fixed wooden shelves inside. The cupboards and shelves are fabric lined. The lining is old but possibly not original. The doors retain their locks and decorative escutcheons, and three keys are present which work all the locks. The credenza is supported a shaped inlaid plinth base. A lovely piece of superb quality.
Slade's Antiques has clarified that the Victorian Burr Walnut Inlaid Credenza with Brass Mounts C.1860 (LA26582) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1860
Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall faded. The fabric lining inside the cupboards is discoloured and has some staining. There is a small area of wood loss to the bottom edge of the left-hand door by the hinge. The veneers appear to have been coloured in in places - this would have been done at the time of manufacture. There are some minor signs of old woodworm damage to the back panel - this is not active but has been retreated as a precaution.
