Victorian Cast Iron Umbrella / Stick Stand, c.1880 A wonderfully decorative late 19th century cast iron umbrella and stick stand, dating to around the 1880s and designed in the elaborate architectural manner associated with Victorian Coalbrookdale cast iron. The stand incorporates turned and fluted columns, pierced interlaced panels, a balustraded back and an unusual shaped architectural crest. Contrasting brass-toned rails and finials add further decorative interest. The original-style removable drip tray sits within the substantial cast iron base, making this a genuinely practical piece for a hallway, entrance hall or boot room as well as a very decorative piece of Victorian furniture. The stand has been professionally shot-blasted, carefully taking the surface back to the cast iron, before being treated with boiled linseed oil. Rather than painting over the iron, this treatment allows the crispness and texture of the casting to remain visible while giving the surface a subtle protective sheen. It remains structurally sound and presents extremely well, with minor wear and imperfections commensurate with its age.
