Lovely Victorian bamboo wood and hallmarked silver gadget walking stick or cane. The silver was assayed in Birmingham as shown in the pictures, date letter for 1896 and makers mark for Charles May. the pommel attaches to the shaft top with a screw thread, the inside of the top has a new cork liner as the old one had deteriorated allowing the bottle to rattle which wasn't safe. Lovely decoration to the silver top which is still crisp and in fabulous condition. The bamboo shaft is strong even though hollowed out at the top to hold a small red glass bottle. This still has it's original cork stopper and contents although these have dried up with age. The surface of the shaft has a mottled finish as you can see in the pictures. I haven't opened it to find out what's in there to retain it's originality. The ferrule is original and made of polished red deer antler. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
It measures 89.5 cm 35 1/4 inches in length, the pommel is 4 cm 1 9/16 inches wide and 4.2 cm 1 5/8 inches long.
