Lovely hazel wood and hallmarked silver walking stick or cane. The silver was assayed in Chester as shown in the pictures, date letter for 1895 and makers mark for Christopher Walker of Manchester. Silver ball top above a silver collar which is engraved RWM 1897. Hazelwood shaft which is strong and perfect for this traditional country cane. The silver is also stamped COKE, sorry I have no idea what this is for. The ferrule is original and made of brass and steel. Low price reflects the condition. It measures 91.5 cm 36 inches in length, the pommel is 3.6 cm 1 7/16 inches wide.
Shires Antiques has clarified that the Victorian Walking Stick Cane Country Solid Silver Pommel Hazelwood Shaft (LA226651) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1895
It's in excellent condition but with some signs of age and use as you'd expect at this age. Lots of bumps and surface marks to the silver as shown, it's really been well used. The shaft is excellent with no damage or repairs. Perfect for an everyday cane or as a beaters stick, with the bumps already in the top you wouldn't need to be precious about it.
