Description
Vintage 18K Gold brooch with natural emerald and 49 diamonds, circa 1950 This elegant floral brooch of Isabelino inspiration is a true vintage jewel, rich in history and distinction. Made around 1950, it stands out for its exceptional craftsmanship and harmonious aesthetics, simulating a flower with finely engraved petals and stylized leaves. The piece was handcrafted in a combination of noble metals: 18K white gold, 14K gold, and .925 silver, with a mirror-bright polished finish that enhances the play of light and reflections on its gemstones. At the centre of the flower sits a 0.60-carat natural emerald in rectangular cut (5.90 x 4.60 mm), with a lovely translucent aspect. Its colour, classified as vslbG 4/4 under the GIA Gem-Set standard, is a vibrant and uniform slightly bluish green, bringing depth and brilliance to the overall design. The petals and leaves are delicately decorated with 49 natural diamonds, with a total approximate weight of 1.64 carats. They are all in rose cut with 3 and 6 facets, and their diameters range from 1.30 to 2.80 mm. Their quality is Wesselton H - Top Crystal I, and clarity is P1, offering a soft vintage brilliance that enhances the romantic and artisanal character of the piece. The brooch features a hinged pin and a cannon-type clasp, typical of mid-20th-century jewellery. Every detail, from the engraving of the leaves to the setting of the stones, was completed by hand, reflecting masterful craftsmanship. This brooch includes its official gemological certificate and appraisal issued by the Mllopis Gemology Laboratory, dated March 2022. The report indicates a market value of 4,075.00 euros, approximately 4,420 US dollars, although this figure no longer reflects the current value of the piece. The appraisal was carried out at a time when the price of gold ranged between 30 and 35 euros per gram. Today the price of gold is around 85 euros per gram. For this reason, the valuation in the report must be considered very outdated and clearly lower than the value that a piece of this quality and weight would have at present. A standout jewel, ideal for wearing on special occasions or for enhancing a fine vintage jewelry collection. It would also look stunning framed or displayed as a decorative piece in a refined interior. A jewel that not only beautifies but tells the story of traditional goldsmithing. Don't miss the chance to own it. Measurements: 6 x 2.9 cm (2.36 x 1.14 in). Weight: 21.1 g. History of Isabelino Brooches The Isabelino style is named after Queen Isabel II of Spain, who reigned from 1833 to 1868. During her rule, a decorative aesthetic flourished that embraced romantic elegance, floral detailing, and the use of precious stones set in noble metals, especially in feminine jewelry. Isabelino jewels were substantial and ornate, often worn by aristocracy. Although the original Isabelino period belongs to the 19th century, its influence remained strong into the mid-20th century, particularly during the 1940s and 1950s. Pieces from this later era, such as this brooch, maintain the spirit of the style while showcasing refined modern craftsmanship. These brooches were considered symbols of femininity and status and were typically worn on dresses, shawls, or hats. Today, they are highly sought after by collectors and those with an eye for romantic, historic design. Each vintage Isabelino brooch is unique, carrying historical and emotional value. They are not only adornments but enduring expressions of an era and an exquisite investment in artistry.
