Vintage Henry Browne & Son Sestrel Marine Barometer c.1950

A good quality fully serviced 6” dial Short & Mason marine bulkhead barometer compendium c.1950. Marine barometer having painted and printed dial with off white ground, dual scales calibrated in inches with a range from 28” – 31” and millibars with a range of 950mb – 1050mb, standard meteorological terms, the upper part marked “Sestrel,” the lower with retailers details’ “Henry Browne & Son Ltd, Barking & London” and at bottom, Inches, Millibars, English Made Marine Barometer. Bevelled glass. Standard movement driven from a single 2”  flux welded capsule, chassis mounted dial standoffs. Presented within a spun lacquered bulkhead brass case. Condition: Fully serviced, conserved and calibrated under laboratory conditions, see performance chart from dynamic test, the movement working well. Dial shows some ageing with very minor losses.   Comments: The barometer most probably the work of Short & Mason, suppliers of many ship’s barometers, and retailed by Henry Browne & Son Ltd.
