Vintage Japanese Kokeshi Doll with Bark

Carved from a natural branch for added texture, nice touch. One of my personal favorites, just love the charming natural nature of this piece. Carefully leaving the bark on this adds another dimension to the traditional method, also they carefully created a rippling border between the bark and open cherry wood between the bark at the top and bottom. As I always say, it's all in the detail to be enjoyed and admired. Another charming detail and not often seen is the head sitting on a separate piece forming a neck and shoulders. Look closely as there is a whole story going on, a house amongst the landscape, possibly in front of a pond with the moon shining down and creating reflections with white flecks lower down. The rest is delicately covered in Japanese script, maybe a story is being told to whoever's child this was made for. I could be wrong, this is just my interpretation of the design, happy to hear differently and know the true meaning. Talking to a someone last week, I was told that a lot of the script is difficult to translate as the language has many dialects and meanings. So, even if you spoke Japanese, wrote in the language, it is not always possible to understand the meanings fully. This could be true of many nations over time it seems.
