Vintage Necklace in 18k Gold with 9 Emeralds & 250 Diamonds c.1950
Vintage Necklace in 18K Gold with 9 Emeralds and 250 Diamonds, circa 1950
This extraordinary vintage necklace, crafted around 1950, is a high-end jewel inspired by the Spanish Isabelino style, a richly decorative aesthetic associated with Queen Isabel II of Spain (reigned 1833–1868). Featuring articulated floral links and intricate botanical motifs, this piece reflects the romantic elegance typical of mid-19th-century Spanish jewellery, reinterpreted through the refined lens of 1950s European craftsmanship.
Meticulously made in 18K yellow gold with .925 sterling silver settings, the necklace showcases a brilliant composition of 250 natural diamonds and 9 natural emeralds, arranged in a harmonious and visually striking design. The diamonds, totalling 5.36 carats, are rose-cut with 3 and 6 facets, and range from 1.40 to 2.30 mm in diameter. Graded Wesselton H - Top Crystal, with clarity between P1 and P2, they are set in bezel using the embedded technique, offering secure mounting and a uniform brilliance across the floral frames.
The 9 pear-shaped natural emeralds, totaling approximately 3.31 carats, vary in size from 4.90 x 3.50 x 1.70 mm to 8.50 x 5.80 x 3.50 mm. Their vibrant green hue and slightly translucent appearance are enhanced by natural inclusions, internal veils, and fissures reaching the surface, traits that not only confirm their authenticity but also give each gem a unique character. The centrepiece of the necklace features a prominent emerald drop that lends graceful movement and visual focus to the design.
The necklace measures 49.50 cm (19.5 in) in total length and weighs 78.46 grams, with a secure box clasp and safety chain, all crafted in solid 18K gold. The entire structure is beautifully finished, front and back, attesting to its exceptional craftsmanship.
A gemological certificate issued by Mllopis Laboratory in March 2022 accompanies the piece, confirming the authenticity of both the gemstones and the precious metals. The certificate states a market value of €14,875 (approximately US$16,140). However, this necklace will be offered at a significantly lower price, making it a truly exceptional investment opportunity, both in artistic and financial terms.
This is not just a jewel, but a heritage piece, ideal for collectors or anyone seeking an unforgettable gift. Perfect for gala events or high society gatherings, this necklace offers timeless glamour and noble elegance. It is a rare find that will elevate any collection and enhance the presence of the wearer with charm, prestige, and classic sophistication.
A truly irresistible offer: certified value, exquisite artistry, and historical charm, all for a fraction of the price. An heirloom in the making.
Measurements: 49.50 cm (19.5 in), Weight: 78.46 g.
History of the Isabelino-Style Necklace
The Isabelino style is a distinctive Spanish decorative trend that emerged during the reign of Queen Isabel II of Spain in the 19th century. Heavily influenced by Romanticism and Neoclassicism, it is known for its elaborate botanical motifs, scrolls, symmetrical arrangements, and rich ornamentation. This style expressed elegance, refinement, and opulence in all forms of art, including jewelry.
By the 1950s, historical revival styles were popular again in postwar Europe, and high-end jewellers began to reinterpret 19th-century aesthetics with contemporary techniques and materials. The result was a blend of traditional beauty with modern craftsmanship. This necklace exemplifies that fusion: its Isabelino motifs are finely rendered, and the use of precious stones like emeralds and diamonds evokes the luxury and status associated with Spain’s royal past.
Emeralds have long been symbols of nobility, fertility, and renewal, while diamonds offer brilliance and timeless value. Together, they form a composition that’s not just beautiful, but deeply meaningful. Isabelino-style pieces are rare and highly valued for their historical significance and intricate craftsmanship.
Today, jewels inspired by Queen Isabel II’s reign are collected by connoisseurs and cherished for their grace and depth. This necklace stands as a tribute to a romantic past, an enduring emblem of Spanish artistry and heritage.
