Rare snake wood and hallmarked solid silver walking stick or cane with a fabulous amethyst pommel. The colour and pattern in the pommel is exceptional as you can see in the pictures. The shaft pattern is hard to show in the pictures but looks really good in natural light. Unusual as it has a blond section to the top of the cane going down to the typical speckled snake wood grain which gives the shaft a really distinct colour pattern. The silver was assayed in Birmingham as shown in the pictures, date letter for 1898 and makers mark for Jonathan Howell. Plain collar with no engraving or initials. Strong snakewood shaft this has always been a very expensive wood and so rare to find unless from a top maker like this. The ferrule is made of brass. It measures 93.3 cm 36 3/4 inches in length, the pommel is 4.8 cm 1 7/8 inches wide.
