Super Victorian partridge wood and gold walking stick or cane. The gold is engraved with a crest to the top with the initials MC to one side of the button top and the date 1837 to the other. Tested as high grade gold but with no hallmark I can't be 100% of the standard although the test indicated 18ct. Very much in the Georgian style with the gold surround to the wrist strap holes. This would normally have been a leather loop which could easily be replaced. The partridge wood shaft is beautifully grained and coloured as you see in the pictures. The ferrule is original and made of red deer antler. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
It measures 88.3 cm 34 3/4 inches in length, the pommel is 2.3 cm 7/8 inch wide.
Shires Antiques has clarified that the Walking Stick Cane 18ct Gold Button Top Pommel Partridge Wood Shaft C.1837 (LA225809) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1837
It's in excellent condition but with some signs of age and use as you'd expect at this age. Minor surface marks to the gold and a small split to the top edge, really hard to find I've had to oversize the picture to capture it. No other damage or repairs on any part of the cane.
