Super Victorian snakewood and 9ct gold button top walking stick or cane. Snakewood is rare to find having been very expensive in it's day as it is now, an 18 inch section today would cost you almost as much as the asking price for this cane. The shaft is beautifully grained and coloured, quite dark in colour so doesn't show up too well in the pictures. The ferrule is original and made of red deer antler. It measures 90.5 cm 35 5/8 inches in length, the pommel is 2.5 cm 1 inch wide.
Shires Antiques has clarified that the Walking Stick Cane 1923 Hallmarked 9ct Gold Button Top Rare Snakewood Shaft (LA344349) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1923
It's in excellent condition but with some signs of age and use as you'd expect at this age. Minor surface marks to the gold and a small split to the edge, next to the hallmark. This has been stabilised so won't deteriorate any more. Not uncommon with gold being such a soft metal. No other damage or repairs on any part of the cane. The shaft is excellent as well.
