Description
This is an eye-catching Art Deco period sunburst wall clock with Beech case by Smith’s English Clocks (Sec), Britain’s most successful clockmaking company.
Behind the diminutive 85mm convex glaze, lies a silver and gold chapter ring dial with black painted Arabic numerals, surrounded by a brass bezel. The hand-crafted decorative case is in fabulous original order, with no obvious repairs or missing carpentry and has been sympathetically repainted to a high standard with traditional gold finish and coated with gesso for longevity and protection as it would have been when it first left the Smiths factory.
The clocks excellent quality 8-day Smith’s 'Model A' circular movement, is a rear winding mechanism, introduced in the early 1930’s, driven by Smith’s own 'Abec' (All British Escapement Company) jewelled platform escapement. This all housed and secured within its original Smith’s signed steel outer retainer case with push-on dust cover.
A wonderful, highly collectable Deco period wall clock, delivering artistic presence to any relevant wall space!
