Description
We present for consideration, this delightful late Victorian fusee wall clock with 12” dial, by registered regional clock and watchmaker (and later jeweller), Charles Edward Cooke of Bingham, Notts.
The clocks solid Mahogany roundhead face sits over a its well-proportioned boxed cabinet. There is a hinged inspection door located to the side of the box and a turn-catch regulator door located at the bottom of the box. The face, box, and doors, have the serial number ‘517’ stamped into them, which was common practise for late 19th / early 20th Century English clockmakers.
The clock retains its original metal dial and artwork, with black Roman numerals and Cooke’s details, finished with its original pair of blued Spade hands, secured with a pinned collet. The clocks dial is then protected by glaze mounted in a brass bezel, incorporating a canted silvered brass fillet to the interior.
The clock benefits from a quality 8-day single fusee chain driven movement set between rectangular plates and turned pillars, (the plates being stamped with the clock’s serial numbers). The clock comes with its original 75mm diameter brass pendulum bob and a brass winding key, plus a c1897 image of Cooke’s retail outlet in Market Street, Bingham.
