The watch has a 15-jewel in-house calibre 12.68Z hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Longines name, and it has the serial number 6,694,984 which dates it back to 1943. The 12.68Z movement came into production in the late 1930s, and was in use until the late 1950s.
The watch measures 30mm wide excluding the later winding crown, and 30mm high excluding the lugs. Although originally designed as a man’s watch, it would suit a slimmer wrist. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the case back for Chester 1943, together with the case maker’s name of Stolkace and the initials GAS for George Arnold Stoll of the Elite Bracelet Manufacturing Co Ltd who registered the Stolkace name in 1934. The case is in good condition for such an early piece, a small “ding” to the edge of the lug, and a little unevenness to the back but not too serious at all.
The lens is in good condition.
The signed enamel dial has a chip to the edge but this is hidden by the bezel, and a short faint hairline at number 4, again mostly covered by the bezel… the dial is stable and secure with a copper backing. Original hands.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
All prices include UK postage (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country. The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a Vat registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the red 'Buy Now' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
