Watch : Gents Eterna-matic 1000 Automatic Watch, 1970

The watch has a 1488K automatic movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 5,999,526 which dates it back to 1970. The watch measures 34.5mm diameter excluding the signed Eterna winding crown and the lugs. The case is rose gold capped which means a generous layer of 14k gold has been applied to the front and sides of the case and the bezel is solid 14k gold. It was said that the gold capping was so thick that it could hold its shape when not fitted to the case and apparently the salesman used to carry a sample of just the gold capping to demonstrate how strong it was. The case is in good condition, just light surface scratching to the back. The back of the watch has a 1970 inscription, BB GHAB. The lens looks good to the naked eye, a couple of very minor marks if viewed through a jeweller’s loupe. The signed dial is in beautiful original condition with original hands, centre seconds and date display (to initially set the time, move the hands well away from midnight changeover and then repeatedly pull the winding crown until the desired date is reached).
