Westminster-Chime Bracket/Mantel Clock

A very elegant and appealing W/C bracket/mantel clock by SMITHS of ENGLAND. An arched walnut case with gilt carrying handle. It retains its original French-polished finish with an attractive age-related patina. A fully opening glazed front door which is operated by a spring loaded button, and with a key operated rear door. It has glazed panels to the sides through which the movement can be seen. The clock strikes on the quarters and the hour playing the Westminster-Chime. It is fitted with a STRIKE/SILENT button. Importantly, it strikes on rods, giving it a very clear, crisp tone. The brass dial has a silvered chapter ring with engraved Roman numerals, gilt spandrels, and a matted gilt centre.
