An arched brass and silvered dial signed to the circular arch boss 'Wm Robb Montrose'. A strike/silent lever to the arch below the name boss and date and seconds dials. A quality 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. William Robb of Montrose is recorded in Whytes' 'Scottish Clock & Watchmakers' book as working from 1746-1780. He was an important and highly talented clockmaker and he is illustrated on the front and back cover of the book with a complicated astrological clock.
