Description
GILLOWS of LANCASTER: A particularly fine and most impressive early 19th century mahogany WINE COOLER of cistern type. The fold-over “cushion” edge is finely and deeply carved with egg-and-dart mouldings, whilst the gently tapering sides are beautifully veneered in finest “flame” mahogany to the countersunk panels. Good beaded mouldings can be found around the base, with its rounded corners, and it is supported on solid mahogany turned feet and original castors within. The lead lining has been carefully replaced so that it is now fully waterproof. A very good and actually quite rare piece by this fabulous cabinetmaker.
