Description
We present for consideration, this fabulous fusee wall timepiece with 12” dial, by maker Thomas Moore of Derby. Born in 1820, Thomas Moore came from a celebrated Derbyshire family of master watch and clockmakers. From the early 1850’s, Moore worked from 22 Queens Street, Derby, before moving to 4 Queens Street, Derby in c1865, and it would have been from here, that this wonderful timepiece was made in c1870 for its first custodians, the former “St. James’ Church of England Infant School”, Derby. The clock is in excellent condition and good working order, having been professionally restored and serviced. The clocks solid golden Oak turned roundhead face, sits over its boxed cabinet with lovely, aged patination. There is a hinged inspection door located to the side of the box and turn catch inspection door at the bottom of the box. The clock retains its original metal dial, (professionally restored to an extremely high standard), with black Roman numerals and Moore’s details. The dial is then finished with a pair of quality replacement chrome Spade hands (probably from the 1950’s) and secured with a pinned collet. The clocks dial is protected by its original thick glaze, mounted in a solid brass bezel. The clock benefits from a quality 8-day single fusee driven movement set between its ‘A’ frame brass plates and turned pillars, stamped with Moore’s unique serial number ‘8623’ on the backplate and comes with its original 73mm diameter brass pendulum bob and a winding key. …A stunning mid-Victorian English fusee dial timepiece of exceptionally high-quality and character, from one of Derby’s best known and respected clockmakers.
