Superbly proportioned 1880 German striking presentation Mantel Clock from the Arts and Crafts period by Phillip Hass & Söhne (Sons) of St. Georgen, in the Black Forest. The clocks architectural veneered Mahogany case with bevelled glaze mounted in a spun brass hinged bezel, offers a range of fabulous hand-carved garniture and embellishment, including side half-columns with brass leaf decoration and a fabulous pagoda apex with finials. Supporting the clock is a lovely, layered mahogany plinth, giving substance and balance to this wonderful clock. The enamelled chapter ring with black Arabic numerals sits on a sculptured tablet of additional mahogany and has a polished brass centre, finished with a pair of original black Crescent hands, secured with a pinned collet. The quality Hass & Söhne 8-day pendulum driven movement strikes the hours and half-hours on its original gong and block, with the mechanisms backplate exhibiting the firms famous 1867 stamped trademark, a rabbit over the initials Phs!
