Description
A decorative and useful piece of antique silver and cut glass, dating from the reign of George III. This charming example is a six bottle table cruet set, with additional silver mounted dry mustard pot. The hallmarked holder is boat shaped in design with ribbed sides, gadrooned rim and engraved initials to the front. It is supported on four stylised feet and has an attractive polished wooden base. The cruet set is held in place by a silver frame, with shaped handle to the centre. The bottles are all matching, including the mustard and are Edwardian in date. Each one is cut with geometric patterns and star cut bases, with cut hollow blown stoppers. The mustard is silver, with the other two mounted bottles being of silver plate. They fit the holder well and may we have been made as replacements for the original examples, rather than being paired together. Either way, it is a wonderful and usable set that would grace any table. Hallmarks:- Softening but readable to both base and mustard. Part marks to the inside lid of the mustard. Date:- London 1810 Maker:- Thomas Wilkes Barker Mustard:- Birmingham 1906
