Gentleman's original Antique Waltham wrist watch in a 10ct gold filled Art Deco 'stepped' case with top grade Crescent St., movement which was awarded to the winner of the 1940 All American Soap Box Derby by Chevrolet Motors. C~1938. Full working order, serviced, new balance pivots and keeps excellent time. DIAL;- Very unusual original cream dial (has some age patina as to be expected) which is stamped respectively in black, red and blue script; WALTHAM ALL AMERCAN 1940 SOAP BOX DERBY and has an image of a young chap driving his soap box to centre. Very unusual that Chevrolet took the time to have the dial dated. Raised gold Arabic numbers with black minute and five minute markers to chapter ring. Original fancy gold hour and minute hands and gold seconds hand all in straight order. Recessed sub dial which is clearly stamped in white; CHEVROLET - upon a blue Chevrolet trade symbol. Original fancy shaped crystal in wonderful condition - showing few little surface scratches under eyeglass only. CASE;- Original 10ct gold filled fancy oblong shaped Art Deco 'stepped' case which measures 2.8cm width (excluding the winder) and 3.2cm lug to lug. Lovely condition with no indentations and just a light bit of overall wear and surface scratches (mainly to the back) commensurate with age. The back cover is clearly engraved in arch script; CHEVROLET MOTOR DIV. AWARD ALL AMERICAN SOAP BOX DERBY CITY CHAMPION 1940 - WON BY VAUGHAN WILLIAMS. JR. Stamped to the inside; KEYSTONE CO. VICTORY 10K and is numbered; 4153083. Has some scratching to centre - looks like someone once decided to remove the words 'Gold Filled'. MOVEMENT;- Original very high grade (cal 870) Waltham 'Crescent St.,' 17 jewel lever movement which is clearly stamped to the top plates; WALTHAM CRESCENT ST. U.S.A. 870 17 JEWELS and is numbered; 29874770 - dating her to 1938. Also stamped around the mainspring barrel cover; PREMIER. Balance action is excellent in all positions and the watch is keeping great time with a sure, positive tick. Original winding crown which shows very little wear. Takes a full and smooth wind. Hand set operates correctly. STRAP;- Complete with a new old stock (probably as old as the watch) black pig skin leather patented adjustable strap with fold over gold tone clasp.
