Arthur Evershed of Brighton is recorded in Loomes 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working in 1878. He was born in the USA, 1834, Evershed moved to Hove, Sussex as a young child with his family, (his father was a US diplomat based in London). Evershed served his apprenticeship in Brighton under Henry Legg, after which he decided to remain in Brighton and Hove for the rest of his life. (His parents returning to the US sometime c1855). He worked in Church Road, Hove.
