Christine Nisbet (1902 - 1990) was a distinguished American-born artist who graduated with a Fine Arts degree from Yale University before continuing her artistic studies in Paris. During the 1960s, she relocated to England with her husband, who served as curator of Compton Castle.
Throughout her career, Nisbet exhibited extensively on both sides of the Atlantic. Her work was shown at prestigious institutions and galleries including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., The Alpine Gallery, London, The Medici Gallery, among many others. Her paintings are celebrated for their poetic symbolism, evocative atmosphere, and distinctive blend of Impressionist technique with surrealist sensibilities.
