David Woodlock (1852-1929) was a figure and landscape and garden painter who was born in Ireland. He lived in Liverpool, Sheffield and Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. He was a key figure in the development of a distinct school of Liverpool painters. He produced some truly beautiful cottage scenes and views of Venice. He was a founder member and later President of the Liver Sketching Club and also a member of the Liverpool Academy of Arts. He developed an individualistic style of watercolour painting where he the bleeding together of colours often produced dramatic results. He exhibited 17 works at the RA but principally at the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool where he showed 118 works.
