Ernest Greenwood was born in Welling Kent and studied at the royal College of Art. After WW11 service, he became a teacher and an inspector of art for Inner London Education Authority and Kent Education Committee. He travelled extensively, exhibited with RA and RI was became a member of RWS in 1973. He served as President for 8 years from 1976 during which time the society re-established itself at Bankside. We think this painting, which was exhibited at Bankside, may date from this period. Examples of his work are held by the Tate Gallery among others.
