Herbert William Cave, of 120 The Parade, Leamington, Warwickshire, was born in Dover, Kent, in 1866, Cave was still plying his trade at Biggin Street, Dover in 1891 as seen on the year's census. However, sometime c1897 he relocated to Leamington with wife Alice and their infant son, Herbert Lionel Cave, yet it is not known why (or exactly when), he chose to do this from his native Dover, which is some distance away! What is known, is that Cave took over the premises of jewellers “W.H. Skinner” at 120 The Parade, Leamington, and that by c1906, he had moved away from clock and watchmaking, to become a sole high street jeweller with his son Herbert (Jr), who eventually took over running the business when his father retired c1920.
