Joseph Hughes Clayton (Exh 1891-1929) was a Liverpool artist who painted mainly in watercolours, usually coastal and marine scenes, particularly of the North Wales coast, often of Cemaes Bay, Anglesey, where he lived. He exhibited principally at the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool where he showed 42 works. His free lively style with loose brush strokes has made his work very popular.
