Maud Raphael Jones (1853-1935) was a Bradford born artist and actually a man, his name came about after his father drinking with friends engaged in a bet as to whether he would call his son Maud, which he duly did. He was a self-taught artist who originally worked as a painter and decorator but he became a member of the Arcadian Art Club in the city and his talent blossomed. He exhibited at every major gallery including 22 works at the Royal Academy.
