William Davies was born in 1928 in South Wales. He served in the Royal Navy until 1962 and was noted for his "en plein air" paintings of London, Venice and other marine subjects. He was a member of The Wapping Group (who paint mainly The Thames and Essex estuaries) and exhibited his work widely including at ROI and RMSA. The quality of light he conjures up makes his work very recognisable.
