Victorian antique chest of drawers reflect a period of confidence and expansion in British furniture making. Produced between 1837 and 1901, they differ markedly from the balanced restraint of Georgian design. Victorian taste embraced carving, moulded drawer fronts, turned columns, and ornate handles, especially in mid-century examples. Gothic revival influences were encouraged by designers such as Augustus Welby Pugin, while established firms like Gillows of Lancaster and London continued producing high-quality case furniture.
