Fabulous Anglo-American Striking Wall Clock with a full glazed hinged front door. The handmade case being made in England (most probably London or Liverpool), and the movement being imported from the US. (This is an unnamed movement, yet with its distinctive and unique tapered escape wheel bridge and plate design, expertise tells us that it’s a New Haven mechanism). The clock is in superb general condition for its age, having a highly decorative and beautifully patinaed Mahogany and Oak case with Fruit Wood, Ebony and Boxwood marquetry. Its architectural design includes a scarce 2-piece Ogee base, separated by rolled scrolls, and retains much of its original hand-crafted wooden embellishment, with apex finials, turned side-columns, internal fretwork, and further finials lower down. In keeping with the general authentic design spec of these much sought-after wonderful old timepieces, the clocks garniture includes an authentic (probably original) case-back mirror secured to the rear of the drop-down aperture, and a sculptured brass pendulum bob in the style of a mercurial shaped appendage. The clocks original ivory coloured metal dial showing age commensurate wear, has black Roman numerals finished with a pair of original blued steel Maltese Cross hands secured with a pinned collet. The dial is then surrounded by a spun brass bezel, mounted within the hinged glazed door fretwork. The robust and highly efficient American 8-day pendulum driven movement is set between two skeleton brass plates. The clock strikes its original cast iron bell on the hours only and comes with an authentic brass winding key.
