Description
A charming 18th century George III monteith or bonnet glass. It has diamond quilt style moulding to the body and the bowl is a form of double ogee shape, which is a common form for this type of item. The foot is of rounded form and it has the expected broken pontil mark Monteith and bonnet glasses were most frequently used for serving desserts at the dinner table, often a lightly set liquid such as syllabub or fruit jelly. They were amongst the most frequently used glasses during the mid 18th century, although their numbers are reasonably scarce today.
