This iconic vintage watch looks superb when worn — a striking example of British modernist design and a collectible piece of wearable art.
Roy Cecil King (1913–2001) was one of Britain’s leading modernist jewellers. He began his career in the 1930s, crafting bespoke pieces for Bond Street jewellers and creating work for clients including members of the Royal Family.
By the 1950s, King had turned his attention to watches — “jewellery that tells the time.” His designs epitomised the bold, innovative spirit of the 1960s and 1970s, earning him recognition at exhibitions such as the British Modern Jewellery Exhibition of 1961. In 1973, the year this watch was made, he acquired the Swiss company La Montre Royale de Genève, merging British artistry with Swiss precision.
Roy King’s clients included The Beatles and Tom Jones, and his bark-effect jewellery became an icon of the era — most famously chosen by Patti Boyd for her 1966 wedding to George Harrison.
