19th Century French Cast Iron Architectural Ornament

French Cast Iron Architectural Ornament 63cm long and 11.5cm at its widest point 4.5kg in weight. A striking late 19th Century French cast iron architectural ornament, beautifully cast with identical decoration on both sides. Modelled in the form of a stylised flaming torch, it features a fluted shaft adorned with a central laurel wreath, surmounted by an elegant flame finial and terminating in an ornate foliate base inspired by Classical and Rococo design. Cast in one solid piece, the ornament was originally intended as an architectural embellishment, with remains of anchoring points to top and bottom: likely mounted to an entrance gate, balustrade, fence, or garden structure, where its double sided design allowed it to be appreciated from every angle. The quality of the casting and substantial weight are characteristic of fine 19th century French foundry work. The surface retains a wonderful naturally weathered patina with areas of oxidation and age related wear, adding to its authentic architectural character and decorative appeal. Condition: Good antique condition, with weathering, surface rust, and wear consistent with many years of outdoor exposure. The ornament remains structurally sound, with crisp decorative detail visible to both sides.
